MEDICAL STUDENT LOAN PROGRAM

Financial assistance is available to eligible medical students who are graduates of Broome County area high schools attending an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada (for a D.O. or M.D. Degree); or to students attending an accredited medical school in Broome County for their M.D. Degree.

Medical students must be entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year for the 2008-2009 school year. Depending on funding availability, priority for assistance is given to upperclassmen who have graduated from a Broome County area high school. However, all medical students meeting loan eligibility criteria may apply, and many have received funding in past years.

Assistance is given in the form of an interest-free loan, which students are required to repay within five years of completion of residency training. Over $444,000 has been awarded since the inception of the program in 1966.
